Now that summer weather is here, I’m taking advantage of the sunny filled days and try and enjoy my balcony at least an hour a day. I’ve also started going out at night time when the world is quiet and listen to meditation music. This is something I used to do at my dad’s house and I’ve really missed it.
I’ve been looking for ways to keep cool and have been trying different kinds of drinks with ice and have discovered some real gems I thought I’d share with you. These are easy to make and very tasty!
Iced Coffee
This one is super easy to make and I forgot how good it can be. It’s now my go-to afternoon or early evening drink. All you need is a teaspoon of your favorite instant coffee, about 2 teaspoons of boiled water, 1/2 cup of milk and ice. There are lots of ways to make this though. Here’s what I do:
- Boil water. Add instant coffee to a large mug
- Add in about 2 teaspoons of the boiled water and let the coffee brew.
- Add in ice cubes (2-3 large)
- Add in 1/2 cup of milk
Give it a good stir and you’re good to go. You don’t even need sugar!

Iced Tea
No, not the store bought iced tea. I mean, cold brewed tea. I’ve started doing this with my herbals teas and am currently drinking a cold glass of peppermint tea. The recipe is easy.
- Brew your favorite tea (green, peppermint, lemon and chamomile are delicious for this). I have started using my tea pot to keep the tea.
- Let the tea cool over several hours. Place in a pitcher or jug.
- Add a pinch of sugar if you want it sweeter
And that’s it! You can store the pitcher in your fridge. Serve in a tall glass with ice and you’ve got a delicious and refreshing summer drink for tea lovers!

Non-alcoholic Screwdriver
This is a go to favorite of mine when I feel like having a cocktail but don’t feel like drinking. All you need is a bottle of 7-up or Sprite and some orange juice. I find it works best with pulp free orange juice.
Fill up a tall glass with 1/4 orange juice and top it off with some ice cubes and 7-up or Sprite. If you do want to spoil yourself, then you can add a dash of Amaretto or spiced rum to make it a cocktail.
These are just a few examples of my favorite drinks. The key ingredient is ice to help keep you cool and hydrated. I find myself wanting less coffee on hot summer days. I love that tea can be chilled and it tastes so good.
If you are looking for a nice summer treat with alcohol, cocktails are surprisingly easy to make! All you need is your favorite juice like mango, pineapple, orange or cranberry juice. Add a splash of alcohol like vodka or dark rum. Add some ice. And give it a good stir!
Now that it’s summer, I’m taking a bit of a break from cooking. But make sure to check my food page for some of my most popular and tasty recipes!
Delicious refreshing drinks! Love the herbal iced teas.
